Friends of the Urban Forest

San Franciscans rely on Friends of the Urban forest to help them plant and maintain trees for a more beautiful and healthy city. Since 1981, FUF's community-based tree plantings have literally transformed San Francisco's cityscape. All told, FUF has helped plant 40,000 trees, representing over 40% of the city's street trees.

The Women's Community Clinic

The Women's Community Clinic provides free, respectful, quality health care and street outreach services to uninsured and low income women and girls.  We rely on a predominantly volunteer staff of over 100 clinicians, outreach workers, health educators and lay volunteers to provide services to more than 5,000 women each year.  Our clients are from many different walks of life including women living on the streets, students and women between jobs.  They all share one thing in common - their need for accessible and affordable health care!

American Cancer society

The American Cancer Society is the voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

Guide Dogs for the Blind provides enhanced mobility to qualified individuals through partnership with dogs whose unique skills are developed and nurtured by dedicated volunteers and a professional staff.

SF AIDS Foundation - AIDS Walk San Francisco

The mission of the agency is to end the pandemic and the human suffering caused by HIV. The agency provides financial benefits counseling, client advocacy, housing assistance, HIV prevention efforts, needle exchange, and the California AIDS Hotline (800-367-AIDS) -- that directly serve over 100,000 individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. The agency reaches over 1.5 million others through community outreach, public policy efforts, prevention campaigns, and the Web.

RCH Inc. Recreation, Education, Vocational Rehabilitation and Respite Care for People with Disabilities

RCH Inc. provides programs and services for children and adults with physical, developmental and emotional disabilities.

CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children

Over two thousand of San Francisco's children are victims of abuse and neglect and are living in foster care. The SFCASA volunteer's commitment to these children is intense, and his or her impact on the child's life is significant. SFCASA is the only agency operating in San Francisco providing court appointed volunteer advocacy and mentorship exclusively to this group of highly disadvantaged young people.

San Francisco Police Activities League

SFPAL was established to counteract Juvenile delinquency.  SFPAL provides supervised programs such as baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, judo, soccer and law enforcement cadets.  More than 6000 youth ages 5 through 20 participate in these recreational and educational programs.

Week of Caring

Week of Caring, a partnership between United Way of the Bay Area and The Volunteer Centers of the Bay Area, provides an easy and unique way for organizations to strengthen community involvement. The event connects volunteers from Bay Area businesses to hundreds of projects organized by local nonprofits.

Project Open Hand provides food and nourishment to improve the quality of life for the men, women and children it serves. Programs include: meal, grocery and nutrition counseling for people with symptomatic HIV and AIDS; congregate lunch and nutrition education for people over 60 years of age; meal service for homebound and critically ill people under the age of 60.
